Give the Gift of Waste this Christmas
In the run up to the winter holidays many of us are thinking about how we can give thoughtful gifts without spending too much money or creating unnecessary waste. Preserved, pickled or fermented food makes beautiful gifts for friends, family – or even yourself.
As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, Hubbub and the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) are hosting a range of £5 cooking session across seven North London boroughs. To encourage people to turn their food waste into thoughtful gifts the sessions will focus on different techniques for preserving food, such as fermenting, pickling and making chutney. Always wanted to learn how to make your own chutney or pickle cucumber? This is your chance.
Please see our website for more information about the Gift of Waste campaign. A full overview of the cooking sessions including how to book tickets can be found here.
“The Gift of Waste” Cookery Book
On the 22nd of November we are launching “The Gift of Waste Cookery Book”, a celebration of the diversity and culinary heritage of North London. The book features stories, recipes and anecdotes shared by residents of North London to professonal food writer Anna Colquhoun, author of Eat Slow Britain, consulant on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet, and the brains behind www.culinaryanthropologist.org
